Local Barter
The oldest business method in the world -
use it to your benefit...

You've got a chair to sell, your guest has a nice new CD player. Brilliant...do a swap! That's what they used to do in olden days and very effective it was too. Until the advent of "The root of all evil"! And even afterwards. There is, in fact a very vibrant international barter market still extant, and even locally, it's growing again.

The trick is to use your accommodation as a currency to get what you want. Try your local or national newspaper: You give them some accommodation for use in a promotion, they give you some advertising space. Try one of your suppliers: you give them some accommodation for a promo, they give you some coffee, or beans or asparagus. Naturally, you've both got to benefit, but at least you're trying some really innovative (in this case that's perhaps not the right word!) marketing. And don't forget your local green groups, often they've got a fully-functioning barter system.
