Bwejuu,  from

You want" Getaway from it All". This is it. An enormous white sandy beach stretching as far as the eye can see. The warm blue Indian Ocean. People? Shops? Hotels?Cafes?Bars?Nightlife? Beach Bars? Hordes of people swimming and sunning themselves? Where are they?

If you want peace, tranquility and real unadulterated beauty then the bumpy ride here is worth it, because when you get to the bungalows, you’ll be at home and at peace with a view and a beach and a sea that millions would die for.

The bungalows themselves are pretty, but quite ordinary thatched bandas with colorful terraced gardens - two beds, mosquito nets, ensuite bathroom, shower and toilet. Basic and clean. Water comes from a local well.

There is a round, thatched area, floored with sand, open to the cooling breeze, with sensational views and a few games, like chess and scrabble this serves as a bar, restaurant, lounge and general talking area. The food is cheap and good. The ambiance is friendly and helpful.

So, why do we think it’s so marvelous? Well...it was a beautiful warm morning (they mostly are) when we took the bumpy road to Bwejuu, by midday, after coffee and a stroll on the "Knock your eyes out" beach we were getting the hang of the incredibly chilled out tranquility. Lunch, we thought. "No problem".

Some chats, a couple of drinks and a little light relaxation later and it was 3pm - lunch was on the go "Would we like crabs?" - the chef had just met a fisherman and crabs were being prepared. Served within the hour with fresh spinach and spiced rice, the crabs were enormous, sea-fresh and utterly delicious.

The coffee took some time, after all the beans had to be hand-roasted and ground, but when it came it was exquisite. There is simply nowhere in the world that we could have eaten better and in more beautiful surroundings.

The beautiful white beach, the lush setting, the tranquility, the warm ambiance and the sensational food had all combined to rob us of the sense of time - we were hooked and that’s what a holiday is all about, isn’t it? For the energetic, Bellevue staff can arrange bicycle hire, snorkeling equipment rental, and use of special shoes for exploring the enormous beach when the tide is out.
