From the moment you arrive at Zanzibar’s Stone Town beach to get the little boat to the island, you’ll know you’re in for an experience with a difference. So roll up your trousers, paddle into the warm waters of the Indian Ocean and climb on board. In twenty minutes or so, you’ll be in paradise.

Chapwani’s 16 acres are covered by massive Baobab trees, coconut palms, passion fruit and giant cacti, and surrounded by small coves, sandy bays and crystal-blue waters.

Its inhabitants include thousands of hermit crabs frequently found in conclave, enormous, but shy, coconut crabs - the world’s largest land crab, a colony of fruitbats and a substantial herd of charming little Dik Diks (miniature antelopes).

On this magical little island, there are only five thatched bandas with a total of ten rooms, each with its own terrace on the beach.

The rooms are spacious, with a large bathroom and separate toilet. They are decorated with colorful African prints and furnished with local antiques and four poster beds.

The restaurant on the water’s edge provides a unique blend of Oriental, African and Italian cuisine. There is so much to do here, that you’ll be really pressed for time.

Read a book, swing on an oversized hammock with amazing views, choose your very own beach, play a little Boule, take a very leisurely nature walk, get up early to watch the seabirds gathering for their morning flight to Zanzibar, enjoy breakfast and lunch in the most idyllic setting.

In the evening, as dusk draws in, the bat colony will be waking up on the north of the island preparing for its daily commute to Zanzibar. It’s dinner time already! After which you’ll find no more perfect sleep than drifting away to the gentle sounds of the Indian Ocean.

But, beware...Chapwani is addictive, it’s not just the setting, the serenity or the food - the quality of the service is sensationally chilled out and kindly.

Here you’ll experience true Zanzibar hospitality...in a relaxed private paradise! And, although the pleasures of exotic Zanzibar Island are less than half an hour away, after a day or an afternoon exploring this fascinating city, you’ll long to come home to relax on your private island.
