This is a small and intimate "Lodge by the Sea" that’s been created with love and great style. Little, if anything, has been overlooked. In our view, it’s impossible to stay here without your spirit being uplifted on an hourly basis - at least.
Matemwe subscribes to true eco-tourism principles. This means in practice that Dieter, Kaye and Theo have lovingly created a lodge that sacrifices nothing for comfort, hospitality and beauty - delivering the rare feeling that you and the lodge are completely in harmony with its stunning environment.
So, much of the superb furniture and fittings like door frames and shutters are made from coconut wood -difficult to work with but very renewable. Fresh produce is bought locally, exquisitely cooked and beautifully served. Solar power is used (although there is a generator). New grass, and lovely gardens have been planted to prevent soil erosion. You will be captivated by the thoughtful touches in every stylish blue and white room. Bottle glass has been used to allow a rainbow of light into the bathrooms, shells have been used to create cornices, colourful local Khangas and beach towels are placed for your use, and your personal hammock on your terrace makes reading, snoozing and enjoying your surroundings a true delight.
Guests are able to enjoy the timeless pleasure of sailing, and diving from, a style of boat that has remained unchanged for thousands of years. Sitting in the beautifully designed restaurant, enjoying the sea breezes after a superb meal of local seafood, you'll possibly realize Matemwe’s secret.
True hospitality, which is reflected in each and every aspect of your stay
